Katavu

Oh boy, soon everyone will have to spend hours driving with their kids on the backseat. Another challange to keep them busy and make sure they don’t get bored and fight all the time. On the  Gezinnig webpage I found this game called Katavu. It looks perfect to me, a bunch of cards with all kind of images that you can look for outside. From easy to hard to find, from pretty regular to very special. Some examples: a caracter on a licence plate, a blue car with a trailer, a hot air balloon, a traffice policeman, a cow and so on. Everyone gets 8 cards and it’s all about being the first to spot everything on your cards. Cards may also be traded, this can be either smart or makes it more difficult. So I’m not sure if that’s a good idea. Katavu sure gives them an hour of something to do on the backseat. So, you only need to think of something to do the following 7 hours….

La Panacée

While everyone is getting ready for their holiday we already had ours in France. It was lovely to stay at La Panacée in Rignac. The fact that we drove 2 hours to many (and had to drive 2 hours back) just to get there was sure worth it. We were welcomed with a delicious bottle of rose wine in the shades of the linden tree and forgot all about the long journey. The entire vacation was just about enjoying. La Panacée is a refurbished farm. Arjan en Lisette, who opened their Chambre d’ Hôte in the Lot, in 2009 after a long reconstruction, put a lot of effort to make every detail perfect. The rooms are luxurious, but kept their typical French atmosphere. The breakfasts are great, with fresh croissants,  jus d’orange and local products. They asked us each morning if we would join them for dinner and believe me, you would love to. Because enjoying Lisette and Arjans’ kitchen once makes you realize there aren’t that many restaurants that good. The personal highlights are the couscous, delicious fresh soups, pineapple crumble, the stuffed artichokes and pasta. They have a one course dinner one day and a 4 course dinner the other. It’s great to do fun things during the day, knowing you don’t have to think about getting groceries or kooking. Just join them at the long table outside, enjoy the kids playing, the sunset, a great wine and good conversations with the other guests. If you’d like more privacy, you can also go out for dinner in one of the nearby villages. There is enough to do in the environment, the webpage of  La Panacée is full of suggestions. Visit the vintage markets, buy your wine in the nearby wine houses in Cahors for example, hike in nature, visit the Murel waterfalls, walk around in cities like Domme and Cahor, explore the Dordogne by canoe or spend a day doing nothing at the pool at La Panacée. Just vacation how vacation should be. I can definitely recommend you this great place to stay!

Miffy Caravan

Keykamp had a great idea. They transformed a dull Mobile Home into a Miffy Mobile home. Absolutely child safe.  Of course Hip & Hot was invited at the opening of this wonderful spot. It is located in Wassenaar, at a Camp park which also has a funpark and a great swimming pool. There are also 2 caravans in France. I can really reccomend this because it’s so wonderful to go there with kids. Holiday in Sealand

 How nice is it then to enjoy a holiday in The Netherlands? There is so much to explore! Now the oyster and mussel season had come. There is a beautiful hotel called Hotel Wemeldinge. This hotel has a special offer to enjoy everything this island has like biking, enjoying the National Park, diving. You can eat nice seefood right out of the sea! And sleep in a very comfortable room.

Bed & Breakfast Binneninn

We where invited to stay a night in Metslawier. That’s nearby Dokkum. It’s a great place to stay as a start off point for daytrips, like the insect museum, a hike on the wadden, a visit to the seal shelter Pieterburen. It’s always nice to find a fantastic place to stay. In Metslawier, at Bed & Breakfast Binneninn. We enjoyed the hip rooms, the great hot tub, the playroom for kids and the hospitality and care taking of our host and hostess. We where truly pampered. After we unpacked, Sterre discovered her bedstee (like a bed in a closet), Yuren discovered the rocking horse and we admired the kitchen and dining room, we drove to Dokkum to eat something. We were well advised and found a great place to eat. When we came back they fired up the hot tub already. So, we changed into our bathingsuits and plunched into the hot tub. We loved it! They gave us the perfect holiday feeling. If we would have brought our baby alarm we would have stayed in the hot tub for a while with a glass of wine, while the kids where sleeping. It felt so romantic, with a beautiful sky full of stars. We felt a little drowsy when we went to bed.  We slept in the big bed, Yuren in the camping bed and Sterre in her authentic bedstee.

And we slept like babies. In the morning we showered in our hip and huge bathroom and when we got dressed and we enjoyed our delicious breakfast that was waiting for us in the kitchen. Full of local products and all biological. Jummy! We felt truly sorry that we had to leave after one night. If you have plans to leave for a weekend any time soon.
