How2talk2kids

A lot of people know this book already or they have heared about it. It’s the book parents should read if they notice they grumble to their children because they don’t do what you want. Efficient communication is the key to solving this problem. But how? How2Talk2Kids explains how. This book has so many recognizable examples for parents, including tips of how to react. This practical explaination makes theory applicable. I think it’s a good and usable method, although I don’t agree on everything they write. It says for example you can encourage a childs’ autonomy by giving a child information instead of an direct answer. I don’t think this always works. Some kids just rather have an direct answer (or they are just not smart enough to understand yet). So, for example, if they ask, can I play over at my friends’ house for a while? The books says you have to tell them, we’ll have dinner in 5 minutes. I don’t think that makes everything clear. I think it’s better to tell a child the combination of information and answer, like: No, because we’ll have dinner in 5 minutes from now. A lot of kids don’t have a notice of time (especially young kids) or they think 5 minutes is more than enough to play. Another point of attention for me is praising kids. The book says you have to encourage children to praise themselves. I agree on that, but in my opinion kids also like hearing their mom or dad (or teacher) tell they did something well. It’s also important telling a child why you think they did something good. It makes the compliment more sincere. I do find good information on that topic in How2Talk2Kids. All together this book sure is worth recommending. You can buy it on the webpage, where you can also get workshops in how to practice this method.

Een mespuntje moeder

Karien lives in England. With her 3 kids. And she blogs. Recognizable. Stories about her life. With kids and husband. About how great it can be with 3 kids. Full of fun and family atmosphere. But also about the hectics. Like for example situations where you think: No! You make a plan of what to do first. Whipe the poo from the wall your baby just shot at it with precision or pick up the toddler that just fell, or grab the other toddler that decided to paint at that moment and is waving coloured pencils around the room. Such recognizable, hectic and hilarious situations that Karien discribes in her book: “Een mespuntje moeder“. I finished this funny book in 1 day. I sat on the sofa and couldn’t stop reading it. It’s just such a great book. Sometimes I was moved, sometimes laughing out loud. But above all: so recognizable! This is the gift you give your friend who is struggling to be a mum. Or the mama-to-be, just pregnant and no idea of what to expect. So, keep it in mind! ”Een mespuntje moeder“ is a must-have.

The wrangler practice book

 The Wranglers practice book for couples that do love each other is absolustely hilarious. So recognisable for those who have been realationship for a while now and want to relativize the daily troubles in a funny way. A perfect gift for a wedding or a birthday. Or maybe even for valentines’ day, just for fun, to give to your loved one. Tell your lover by colouring that the dishes stink or you just don’t feel that great. Cut out a message to make clear you are annoyed by something, instead of discussing it and it turns into a fight. Tell them how you feel, and let the Wranglers practice book fill it in with humor. Cook Your Book

I like to cook. I got subscribtions to magazines like  Delicious, Elle eten, etc. A long time ago I even got a subscribtion to Sla (a vegetarian magazine), Wining & Dining and Tip Culinair. And I love the Allerhande. Nowadays there even is a magazine called JAMIE (Jamie Oliver), and I am going to try that out soon too. I tear out the delicious recepies and save them. If they are approved by the commission (my husband and kids) I put them in my cooking dossier. In meantime my dossier is full. That’s why I love the idea from Cook Your Book. Green.2 magazine

For the ones that didn’t know already: I got into a little accident with the carrier bike about a week ago. I did something wrong and when I went to the hospital they told me I had a little fracture in my knee. So now I spend times on the couch, with my knee lifted by a bunch of cushions. And when the sun starts shining on the balcony, I move to the lounge couch outside, where I can actually enjoy the art of doing nothing sometimes. The rest of the time I spend being annoyed that I can’t do a thing. During the day I always have some magazines at hand.  I just happend to receive some and I enjoyed reading Green2. I hadn’t heared of it before, but it appears to be a hip magazine about everything that’s green, organic, sustainable and eco. And fun! I noticed they also mentioned stuff I wrote about before on Hip & Hot or that I have planned to write about in the future. Not the dusty people stuff, but an inspiring and renewing magazine.

Kidsdinge

A shame that I didn’t mention the webshop Kidsdinge before December. It’s a paradise for hip, super cute kids’ stuff! I put it directly in my favorites and I’m sure that goes for more readers. Nice games, toys, tinker stuff, books, stuff to bake with, they have almost everything. And it’s also pretty original. I mean, there is memory and there is memory…. Kidsdinge has the funniest memory: I never forget a face. Very multi cultural and therefor suitable for schools with multiple nationalities. Also interesting for mums, I would be really happy with the book “Luck, the world of happiness” or the wooden nesting dolls, or those great  heart paperclips that I, yes I admit it, put in my shopping cart… As you can see, this is a good one again. Go to Kidsdinge and try to leave without spending something (good luck, it’s not going to work)

De vrolijke vier seizoenen

Het is kinderboekenweek! Gisteren reed ik dan ook met de bakfiets volgeladen met 2 kindjes, een boekenbon en een dikke portemonnee richting boekwinkel in de stad. Wij kopen ieder jaar tijdens de kinderboekenweek een kinderboek voor allebei de kindjes. Een traditie die ooit in het leven is geroepen door mijn ouders en die ik graag in ere houd. Lezen is immers goed voor kinderen, net als voorlezen. Ik ben gezegend met 2 kindjes die er ook het geduld voor hebben, zelfs als ze nog maar 5 maanden zijn. Yuren zit elke avond op schoot als ik Sterre voorlees en kijkt aandachtig mee. In de boekwinkel viel de blik van Sterre meteen op ”De vrolijke vier seizoenen van Rotraut Susanne Berner. Deze zomer kreeg ze het lente deel (Leve de Lente!). Dat was een groot succes. Maar nu is er een boek uit waar alle 4 de delen in zitten en die moest en zou mee. Ik ben gezwicht. Het interactieve karakter aan deze boeken, ze zoekspelletjes, het leuke doorlopende verhaal en de tekeningen waarin je steeds weer iets nieuws ontdekt hadden bij al overtuigd van urenlang leesplezier. Maar daarnaast ook van gezellig samenzijn met je kindje. Het grote boek ging dus mee. En vervolgens hebben we de hele middag lekker op de bank zitten lezen.

Ben je benieuwd naar het boek? Het is een absolute aanrader. Het boek waarin alle 4 de delen zitten heb ik bij bol.com niet kunnen vinden, maar de losse delen wel. Die zijn minstens zo leuk en bovendien heel betaalbaar. Wie graag een boek koopt tijdens de kinderboekenweek en nog twijfelt welk boek geschikt is moet zeker aan deze serie denken. De vrolijke vier seizoenen is eigenlijk een boek dat niet in de kinderboekenkast mag ontbreken!

CRAVE Amsterdam

Er staat al een paar dagen zo’n oranje boekje links in de kantlijn. Misschien heb je er al eens op geklikt, maar misschien is het je ook nog niet opgevallen. In elk geval ga ik vandaag vertellen over dat boekje. Het heet namelijk CRAVE en gaat over “what women crave”, of beter gezegd: waar vrouwen naar snakken. Misschien ken je het woord wel van de zwangerschapscravings, vrouwen die tijdens de zwangerschap aan bepaald soort voedsel verslaafd zijn. Dit boekje gaat echter niet over lekkernijen die vrouwen moeten hebben, maar over hippe winkels die vrouwen gezien moeten hebben. Het hele boekje staat vol met inspirerende, energieke vrouwen die allemaal een eigen onderneming hebben. In en om Amsterdam. En soms hebben ze alleen een webwinkel. Lees meer over deze vrouwen en hun onderneming, maar lees ook wat deze vrouwen bezig houdt, inspireert, hoe ze hun vrije tijd besteden en nog veel meer spannende weetjes. Lizzy the Butterfly

Ik kreeg boekjes thuisgestuurd. Hele lieve, kleine boekjes. Over Lizzy de Vlinder. Educatieve boekjes ook, want Lizzy beleeft avonturen en leert daardoor tegelijk hoe kikkervisjes kikkers worden en rupsjes zich ontpoppen tot een vlinder. Als Lizzy goed haar best doet, wordt ze beloond met bloemen op haar vleugels. Ik las de boekjes voor aan mijn dochter van 3. Ze zat ademloos te luisteren en te kijken. Regelmatig pakt ze de boekjes weer. Ik kan dus zeggen dat het aanspreekt voor die leeftijd. Ik denk zelfs dat het al wel eerder aanspreekt. De boekjes zijn kleurrijk en spreken daardoor ook jongere kinderen aan. Het verhaal zou je bij de jongere kindjes wat kunnen inkorten, het vergt nogal wat concentratie van de kleintjes anders. Lizzy de Vlinder is een kinderlijn, naast de boekjes (die je voor 6,95 euro op de website aanschaft) kun je nog meer leuke spulletjes kopen. Denk aan spelletjes, kleertjes, tassen, kaarten, bestek en zelfs hele kraammanden! Ontzettend leuk om te geven of te krijgen als iemand net bevallen is bijvoorbeeld. De sokjes zijn echt een aanrader trouwens. Sokjes zakken namelijk ALTIJD af, maar deze niet! Ik mocht ze namelijk uitproberen, dus ik spreek uit ervaring. Als Yuren uit deze gegroeid is, dan bestel ik nog eens een paar blauwe in de volgende maat!

Het duurt nog even, gelukkig. Ik word binnenkort pas 34. Mijn wederhelft moet er echter al wel bijna aan geloven. Hij bereikt volgend jaar de volwassen leeftijd van 40. Toch een soort drempel.
